***Rules of Play***

IF YOU NEED A RULING DURING PLAY, PLEASE CONTACT AN OFFICIAL GRASS CLIPPINGS OPEN RULES OFFICIAL.

If you are unable to make contact with a rules official—play out your ball on two different scenarios and record both scores. Consult with a rules official after the round to determine which score to take.

The following rules apply to the Scramble Format played at the Grass Clippings Open. The following rules particularly outline the major specifications of playing Scramble Format at The Short Course at Mountain Shadows. ALL other situations & subsequent rulings that are not outlined below will be interpreted using the USGA Rules of Golf.

Scramble format - Each player hits 1 tee shot on each hole in any desired order. The team will agree on their preferred shot and both hit from that location in any desired order, repeating this process until the ball enters the cup. The ball must enter the cup on every hole. You will record one score on each hole.

Declaring your ball - Before your first shot, and any time you change balls thereafter, you must verbally declare your ball and any additional markings to everybody in your group.

Marking your ball OFF the green

  • You must place your mark directly perpendicular to the ball in line with the hole, no more than 1 scorecard length away from the ball.

  • You may NOT move the ball any closer to the hole

    • You may change the lie of the ball but NOT the environment - FOR EXAMPLE: you can not use the above description to move your ball from the rocks to grass, the bunker to grass, long rough to a shorter cut of rough, off the green to on the green, etc, etc.

    • Both players may place their ball anywhere in the eligible space. No further than 1 scorecard length away from the mark

    • If a ball is hit without a mark in place, you must play from the result of that shot.

Marking your ball ON the green

  • You must place your mark perpendicular to your ball in line with the cup.

  • You must place the mark no more than 1 scorecard length away from the ball.

  • You must place your ball within 1 scorecard length of the mark - no closer to the hole.

  • Both players must complete their shot before moving on to the next shot.

Out of Bounds (white stakes) - The entire course is lined with white out-of-bounds stakes. If your selected ball is out-of-bounds, you must re-hit from the original location. FOR EXAMPLE: If you are on the tee box you are 1 Out-of-Bounds, 2 back to the tee box, hitting 3.

Hazards - Under penalty of one stroke, you must place at the nearest point of relief.

  • Hole 7 and hole 12 will be played from drop zones if a selected ball is in water/hazard.

Cartpath - If your ball or any part of your body is touching a man-made object at address, you are eligible to move your ball one club length from the nearest point of relief, no closer to the hole.

Scorekeeping - Each group must keep the score of themselves and the other group.

POST ROUND - Turn scorecard in at scoring tent. Each Team Captain must verbally agree on the final scorecard and record their signature.
